CORRECTION – NEW MODIFIER CS – EFFECTIVE DATE APRIL 20, 2010

Modifier “CS” is a new modifier that was created to identify items or services related to the treatment of illnesses, injuries, or conditions caused or exacerbated, directly or indirectly, by the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. As noted in Transmittal 2021 (CR 7087), contractors will accept modifier CS on all claims for such items or services for dates of service on or after April 20, 2010. The Calendar Year (CY) 2011 Healthcare Common Procedure Codes System (HCPCS) file erroneously listed modifier CS with an effective date of January 1, 2011.
